ITANAGAR, Oct 18: It has been long time since 1962 war between India and China ended but mutual mistrust between two giant neighbours continues. The war broke out after Chinese army invaded the then NEFA area claiming it to be part of south Tibet. Since then though NEFA has become the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Chinese continues its claim.
This has soured the relation between two Asian heavyweights. Many analysts believe that Chinese indulge in such claim game only to maintain edge over India in international politics.
The people of Arunachal have been bearing the maximum brunt of the frosty relation between India and China. Even though there is immense potential of border trade between India and China through various border posts in Arunachal, nothing has happened in this front till date. Of all the border post, the Kibithu town in Anjaw district is one of the best places to start the border trade.
Situated along the bank of Lohit River, Kibithu is the last border town of Anjaw district and is heavily fortified with military presence along both side of border. From Kibithu, people can have a look at Chinese side of border with naked eye. It has every potential to become a major trade hub between India and China.
Unlike Bumla in Tawang district, Kibithu is blessed with good road connectivity which is open throughout the year. The road connects Kibithu with important trading hub of North East like Dibrugarh and Tinsukia passing through places like Tezu and Namsai. The starting of border trade via Kibithu will not only benefit the people of Lohit and Anjaw district, the entire North East region stand to gain from such initiative.
The government of India had open international trade route at Nathula in Sikkim but they are not opening the Arunachal side of border. In this modern era nobody is going to gain anything from such kind of isolation. Arunachalee citizens are born Indian and Chinese too knows it very well.
Therefore, instead of such isolation policy, central government can take positive step like starting of border trade through various border posts of Arunachal. Besides generating job opportunities for local citizens, border trade will lead to people to people interaction and thereby normalizing the relation between two countries. The time has arrived for central government to think seriously for the people of the sensitive border state like Arunachal Pradesh. Steps have to be taken to promote mutual trust for benefit of both the neighbouring countries.
Arunachalee students beaten up in Karnataka
ITANAGAR, Oct 18: Ten Arunachalee students studying at Poojya Dodappa Appa Engineering College Gulbarga, Karnataka have been beaten up by local residents. They were allegedly attacked by group of around 40 local students nearby the college campus with sharp weapons.
As per report 4 of them have received injury with one first year student Isac Koyu getting head injury.
While recounting the whole event, one Arunachalee students told this daily over phone that they are living in extreme fear. “On 16th night two Arunachalee students were sleeping in their room. At around 2 in night they saw 3 local students trying to take something from their room from the window. Upon this they shouted and chased them. This led to scuffle between them in which locals helped by their friends beat up the two boys. Next day they complained to college principal and HOD about it. This infuriated the local students and since then they are targeting all Arunachalee students including girls,” told one student over phone.
He further told, “Local students are looking for Arunachalee students everywhere in Gulbarga town. We had filed FIR but police is yet to take any action in this regard. College authorities is not cooperating either. All the Arunachalee students have assembled in one rent house and staying together for safety. We fear for our life.”
This is not the first time such incidents has happened in south India which is usually considered to be safe place to study compared to central and north India. Last month Arunachalee polytechnic students were attacked in Tamil Nadu too.

Meanwhile the All Arunachal Student's Union of Karnataka (AASUK) has vehemently condemned such kind of inhuman behaviour of the local people towards Arunachalee students studying in Karnataka. They have appealed to the state govt particularly the technical department to look into the matter and solve the problem amicably without creating problem for Arunachalee students.
“We appeal our state govt to work for the safety and security of our students particularly in Karnataka. Further we urge the state govt and the technical department for financial assistance to those students who are admitted in hospital at Gulbarga,” stated AASUK in a release.
Home Minister, Takar Marde informed that he had per
sonally spoke to members of All Arunachal Student's Union of Karnataka (AASUK) and superintendent of police Gulbarga after he was informed about the incident.
“They assured me safety of our students and Arunachalee students detained for interrogation has been released. DGP of the Arunachal has also spoken to her counterpart. Situation is normal and I hope our students will be able to pursue their study without any fear,” Marde added.

ITANAGAR, Oct 18: The Union Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Paban Singh Ghatowar today said the North Eastern Region should boost its economy by trading with neighbouring countries. Ghatowar said the region could provide ample opportunities for international trade, as it shares the border with China in the North and Myanmar in the East. Ghatowar said that India’s Look East Policy has started bearing fruit due to the continuing dialogue and trade with China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand and other countries of ASEAN. He said this, while inaugurating a workshop "North East Development Paradigms" organized in Shillong today.

Daporijo candle light march for peace
ITANAGAR, Oct 18: Changs Trust and BSG Foundation have conducted a peaceful Candle light march at Daporijo, Upper Subansiri yesterday. The recent violence and unrest in Itanagar and various part of Arunachal has prompted the organizers to conduct the peaceful march. The Peaceful march was aimed to promote peace and universal brotherhood.
More than 600 students from various schools of Daporijo took part in the rally. Teachers, public and business fraternity also joined the peaceful candle light march which started from Govt. Higher Secondary School Daporijo and culminated in Rijo ground, Daporijo. Bubu Gameh, chairman, BSG Foundation and also the Speaker, Galo Students Union while thanking everyone stressed for peace and said that “violence has always created rift in the society and at the end we all ardently wish for peace which is the essence of human civilization. The organization said that though it is not anti development but the landing ground would require substantial land covering almost 90 percent land of people of Dutta, Paph, Nenebo, Dapopogyang and Nenchalyang.

ITANAGAR, Oct 18: The new Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, Prof. David R. Syiemlieh called on the Governor General JJ Singh at Raj Bhavan on Oct 18. The Vice Chancellor briefed the Governor, who is the Rector of the University on faculties, starting of new departments, ensuing workshops and overall state of the premier institution.

PATIALA, Oct 18: Champion weight lifter Yukar Sibi was adjudged the best lifter during recently concluded Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held at Cape Town, South Africa.
Sibi (62 kg body weight) won one gold and 2 silvers in Senior (Men) section of the Championship and in Junior (Men) section.
With three gold medals under his belt, his ranking has gone up to the 4th in the Commonwealth Weightlifting ranking.
Talking to this reporter from National Sports Institute Patiala, Sibi informed that the award was given by the International Weightlifting Federation president Tamas Ajan.
In boys section, Soram Hitler Tagru won one gold and two silver under 62 kg weight categories and Takio Yana won 3 silvers in 58 kg body weight category in youth (Girls) section of the Championship.
World Sight day observedin a remote circle
Daporijo, Oct 18: The people of remote villages of Siyum and Kodoka of Upper Subansiri district got an opportunity to be part of the World Sight Day on Oct 13 & 14 with the visit of a medical team that was led by the Dr. Dubom Bagra, DMO Daporijo.
Speaking on the occasion, the DMO appraised the huge gathering about the correct way to take care of eyes to prevent blindness. He also stressed on the importance of giving Vitamins to children from age of 9 months to 5 years and also expressed unhappiness over the non availability of Vit A solution in the department since the last 5 months. Information was also imparted to the audience about eye donation declaration before his/her death.
Through a power point presentation, Dr. Bagra also informed the audience about the causes of blindness, its implications in the family and society. A screening of eye problem was also conducted at Siyum School by the ophthalmic assistant where more than 80 students were examined.
During the 4 days tour programme, the DMO along with vaccine team visited Taliha, Damba, Lingram, Garam, Takiopuring, Pagenalo, BRTF camp, Siyum villages and interacted with villagers about availability of health care facility and vaccinated more than hundred children who were reluctant to accept vaccination due to misconception about the vaccines. The DMO gave an assurance to the villagers that he himself with the same team would visit regularly at same time and on the same day of every month to ensure full immunization.
During the tour, awareness was created on malaria, population stabilization, oral hygiene, consequence of tobacco consumption, HIV/AIDS, TB etc through power point presentations and film shows. (DIPRO)

All wrongs can't be blamed on police personnel
Dear Editor,
This is apropos of the articles written against the atrocities of the police personnel. I as personnel would also like to highlight the problems being endured by police personnel in our state.
If there's an Afghanistan in India, it's Arunachal Pradesh. It's is the state which ensures no security for lives of police personnel and administrative officers. In fact, our state is a home for all kinds of violent outbreaks, be it communal, against administration, against outsiders etc.
We police personnel are deployed to pamper, caress and convince the law breakers
all the time, filled with the fear psychosis that all goes well, lest suffer suspension,
termination of jobs. We are also human-
Right from Tirap/ Changlang to Itanagar or any other places in Arunachal, we are
under pressure from all sides. We are made living-
We are bound to refrain from any action, despite seeing the violence ,destructions
and hostilities inflicted by the violent mobs. There are common situations when our
local guys deny and defy the words of police on duty and more amazingly the police
personnel are often attacked by the wrong-
Resorting to lathi-
No doubt, there are some guilty personnel and errors committed by us, but all the wrongs can't be blamed on police personnel.
I also appeal to all the people of the state not to underestimate all the police
personnel, especially the I.P.S officers as they are not going to come under the

It is needless to say that peace and disturbance have cascading effects with a direct bearing on our day to day lives.
As a disturbed mind creates ripples in a family and disturbed minds directly affect the society, chaos in the Capital Complex brought all developmental activities in the state to a grinding halt, the traders and financial institutions suffered huge losses with the daily lives of the masses going out of gear.
Should we like to continue with this, forcing a bleak future for the state?
The political echelons, which have gone astray inviting the present tragedy, should go for introspection to bring the splitting society together by forging consensus ways to bring harmony and peace.
The state police entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining law and order miserably fails every time there is a crisis. The uniformed personnel get sandwiched between their duties and factors beyond their control obstructing them, but they are always at the receiving end.
It was shocking to learn that the police department does not have the required wherewithal, including money to buy fuel for the few dilapidated vehicles, to face any situation.
Is the department running Ram bharosey? When the political bosses promise so many big things, how could the simple things be neglected? Who interferes in police administration without allowing them to function? If these facts are any indication, it is time to free the police from all its and buts and to give them the teeth to come up to the people’s expectations.

The issues of mega hydro projects in all the major rivers of this North Eastern Himalayan State of Arunachal Pradesh is a forgone conclusion now. There are almost 200 MOA’s already executed by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh with numerous corporate houses called power proponents and many more are in the process. That means, about 200 massive manmade lakes will be coming up in this geologically and environmentally fragile state which is mostly build up of loose sedimentary strata. This Himalayan Region where the Arunachal Pradesh is situated is one of great tectonic activities resulting in numerous earthquakes, faulting, folding, etc and accordingly the region is classified under Seismic Zone VI. We scientific but stupid human beings are wrong to assume that this planet, the land belongs to us, but the only fact is that we belong to this land; the Mother Nature is our owner and the master. Anyone who tries to master this land shall be but humbled and crumbled under her lap. Human civilizations one after another and destructive to the Mother Nature herself tried to evolve during ages but lay ruined in the pages of history of human civilizations and that is the only path. If the Assam earthquake of 1950’s is a historic past so as to evoke a faint memory or no memory at all for any Cynical Scientific Great, then the latest Sikkim earthquake where around 500 people were killed, many thousands injured, Ten Thousands of houses lay shattered and many highways and other infrastructures still laying ruined is not a celluloid screening at all. These are the warnings and indications of The Mother Nature for the people to stop irreversible and harmful intervention to the systems and processes of nature which are but supreme. Neither Japanese Engineers & Technocrats could design and develop the human accentuated earthquake & natural disaster proof structure nor there is any human being in this planet who can ever create one. In the near future, come the 200 mega hydro projects with massive lakes, and if any earthquake ever strike; which is an absolute probability; the low lying river basins and flood plains along Brahmaputra River and its tributaries in the North East states and up to the state of West Bengal will be washed away completely. Millions and millions of lives will be maimed forever. And its not just the earthquakes that will harm but, the Chinese can easily annihilate us through hydro warfare unarmed and unwarned and there is an issue of national safety and security also. China can create abnormal discharge in the rivers originating from their land because they are also engaged in building numerous hydro projects in these rivers. If the upstream Chinese ever release massive abnormal discharge in any river basin, then all the dams in downstream India will be washed out due to dam breakages triggered by massive land erosion, landslides, etc. for a silent homicide. Displacement of dam affected people, cultural decimation of native people, submergence of major settlement areas and vast low lying agricultural lands, permanent disruption of local food & vegetable production, forest resource, fish & aquatic resource, quarry, etc and extensive & destructive impact upon natural ecosystem, innumerable imported human diseases, etc are also the harsh realities that will torment the inhabitants of the area in the future for ever and ever. And in humble realization of harmful effects of mega dams, the developed Americas, Europeans, World Commission on Dams & others have taken up phasing away of all mega dams in their respective countries. The bottom line is that, the mega dams are destructive and suicidal for the people of Arunachal, the people of India, and humanity and the Mother Nature.
To the people of this world, to the people of India, come one come all, lets save humanity, lets save Indians and say no to mega dams in Arunachal Pradesh.

Lost days
Dear Editor,
Eleven of had come to Itanagar for filling up APPSC(main) exam and buying study materials. But due to bandh calls and tense situation in the state capital, we were stuck for around a week at a hotel. Thus we lost 7 valuable days.
Then when we went to book stall for purchasing study material for main exam, shop keepers told us that they have just ordered the books. And all cannot afford to go Delhi or Ghuwahati or neither all have friends in these places who could send the books.
We are sure that other might have also faced the same problems.
Therefore it is our appeal to APPSC to kindly give us few more days’ time for preparation. And we would like to tell the commission that if they change their decision no harm will happen to commission’s prestige, dignity and honor.

Poverty and child labour
The 2001 census counted 175,000 child labourers in the state of Jammu and Kashmir,
though other estimates believe the number is closer to 250,000. A 2003 research study
by the British non-
A 2009 study conducted by the Central Asian studies department at the University of Kashmir found that huge numbers of working children are uneducated or undereducated, a fact that constitutes a grave violation of human rights.
According to the study, nearly 34 % of child labourers have only received a fifth grade education, while just over 66 % have only studied up until the eighth grade. Once they start working, 80 % of child labourers stop attending school altogether.
Given that 9.2 % of child labourers are between five and 10 years old, while 90 % of them are between 11 and 14 years old, these trends foretell a grim picture of an entire generation of impoverished and uneducated youth.
Other studies highlight the immense struggle families face to feed themselves and their young. More than 80 % of the child workforce comes from families with six to 10 members, with just over 15 % from families of 11 to 15 members.
Over half the working children earn an average of one to five hundred rupees a month. In U.S. dollars, this works out to about 33 cents a day.
